• GOALS – – LOOKING BACK TO SEE FORWARD

    by  • February 21, 2017 • From Justin

The other day I was traveling.  It was like every week in that regard.  Really nothing out of the ordinary, the standard mix match of driving, airplanes, and the occasional train ride.  While some people do yoga to clear their mind and others meditate,  I find the best place for me to clear my mind is on an airplane.  It is there where I break out in deep thought.  So the other day while stuck like a sardine between two people I took two deep breaths, put on my headphones and closed my eyes.  Like a master in an advanced meditation, I began to clear my mind.

My mind began to take a journey through the past twelve months.    2016 was a big year filled with actions.  We sparked several development breakthroughs.  New partnerships began.  Contracts were signed and new hotel concepts were born.  Renovations took root.  Strategies found legs. In some cases mistakes were made, but the learning was captured then applied.

Looking back, I saw achievement of – – some planned and some not.  But it was then that I realized I need to be better at setting a true North for goals looking forward… goals that keep me focused and on track no matter what hits in the next twelve months.

So, I began to think about what I wanted to see in retrospect twelve months from now on another airplane ride.  Professionally, personally, what does this same day in 2017 look like for me and our company?   Thoughts of growth strategies for development, streamlined processes, new marketing messages started hitting the paper.  2017 is going to be the year.

But I have realized there is a big difference between a bunch of ideas on paper and a measurable focused plan.

I am in the process of looking at Richard Jabara’s and the PA’s of the other VPs.  I am asking myself what I can do to help them achieve success.  And then I am asking myself what I do best and what needs to be on my 2017 Performance Agreement.

When it is published please give comments and critiques.  I will be using my PA this year as a real tool for success.  Also please share how can I help you achieve success for those you serve in 2017?  What are some of your goals?
